Moosonee/Cochrane event

Post  connie&keith on Tue Dec 02, 2008 2:16 pm

Keep the long weekend in August 2009 open! We will have an event in Cochrane and in Moosonee! How about a picnic on the shores of James Bay and dinner with the polar bears, not to mention a scenic, peaceful, train ride!

We will put more information as the story unfolds, but keep that date in mind Smile

Wow! The Moose Factory Express. Does it still involve an overnight stay? I'm in, if accommodations are readily available.

There are 2 hotels up here, plus my own bed and breakfast (but it has been booked already for that weekend), and a couple of other really nice bed and breakfasts. We would also accommodate tents in our yard too. There is a Provincial Park on an Island on the River, Tidewater Provincial Park, and there are accommodations on Moose Factory Island as well. The long weekend is also the time of the "GOOP", Gathering of Our People, a Cree celebration up here, so there should be some interesting things to do besides hunting for the gazillion caches I will hide by then Smile

Cool! GOOP has a particularly personal meaning for me, but that's another subject. Book me a tent spot in your yard.

Which weekend do you have in mind?

The Island OP also has some great Fossil hunting spots - might be a good spot for an Earthcache if someone has an "in" with the land manager? Wink

August Long Weekend 2009. planning an event in Cochrane on the Saturday night, train up Sunday morning, event that night, train out on Monday. All in the planning stages at the moment. I have one earth cache here now, and I never thought about Fossil Island as an earth cache, I will get that one set up too! thanks for the idea!!!

My pleasure! The specifics will be different, but you can use my fossil Earthcache as a template if you like:

People really seem to enjoy the logging requirement on that one
